Rotterdam’s MVRDV’s public Art Depot will be placed at the northern edge of Rotterdam’s Museum Park. The Park is in the center of the famous city’s cultural campus. The reflective round building with the size of 15,000 square meter will store a collection of art and design objects. It will be added as a new cultural landmark to the group of buildings Kunsthal, Chabot Museum, Sonneveld House and the Het Nieuwe Instituut.
The “Collection Building” will combine the facilities for restoration, exhibition spaces, restaurant and a bar, offices, a public roof top terrace and others. The building will also include a specially commissioned atrium, allowing the visitors to see and experience up to 90 % of the collection.
This extraordinary project was selected as the proud winner of an international competition. The design competition was held by the city of Rotterdam. The planning commission approved the project in November of 2015.
